Americans will now face an important choice this year: Do we really find it acceptable to continue the Presidency of a man who stirs up racial and ethnic hatred, lies constantly, treats even his closest associates with contempt and cruelty, and has no respect for decency and our traditions?
Will they vote to re-elect the man who essentially dodged the draft, then slimed the war hero John McCain for having been captured?
They must ask themselves if — even if they believe his administration is responsible for the booming economy — this is worth it. How they answer with their ballots will decisively show whether we are anything like the nation we were taught we were in elementary school.
February 6, incidentally, is Ronald Reagan’s 109th birthday. Republicans might ask themselves if this is what he, and they, meant by that shining city on a hill.
